Just a few observations:

1) I obviously had pacing issues (i.e. starting out too fast) in my short course racing days.  I won’t say I never have this problem anymore, but I am much improved because marathons demand it.

2)  I thought I had done more than 10 sprint triathlons and 3 half-marathons.  I would like to do more half marathons, but I feel like I would need to run them very hard.  Note that I didn’t say I would want to run them hard – just that I would feel obligated to do so.

3) When you add up my finish times from all of my sprint triathlons, the figure is not much more than my Ironman finishing time.

4) My PR’s for several distances came within other events.  Some people might say these don’t count, but I say they count for more (super PR’s!) because I was either not 100% fresh (as in the case of a run PR at the end of a triathlon) or holding something back (as in the case of a 2-mile PR at the beginning of a 5K).

5) The only time goal I have right now is to break 3:30 in the marathon.  It is not going to happen this year.

6) I would like to add many more marathons and a 50K to my resume.

7) Yes, I remember every one of these races, many fondly…a few not so much.

8) Of all the races I have ever done, I worked hardest for and am proudest of my Ironman finish.

  1. Wow!! That’s a lot of running and running combined with other things! Just reading the list makes me tired! It amazes me that some of your PR’s are in events such as triathlons. It’s like it primes you for the faster times. I fully believe you will be able to accomplish the things you still wish to do! And many more! I am also impressed that you still remember all of them and the times.

    • Of course I remember some of my times, but if I had to rely on my memory alone, this list would be way shorter. I had to use old training logs and scrap books to make this possible!
